Day 2 of 20 - Autumnal Equinox Series: MOVEMENT

 October 6, 2020

Incorporating an exercise routine into your daily schedule helps to improve blood flow, increase your energy, and keeps your body healthy and strong. Moving your body is not only healthy for you physically, but it also stimulates your endorphins which elevates your mood like a natural antidepressant. It just makes you feel good! Even just 15-20 minutes a day has substantial benefits. It can be a challenge to get yourself started, but once you’ve completed your routine, you’ll be so glad you did it! I set my alarm a little earlier in the morning so I have designated time for exercise (and meditation). It’s a really wonderful way to begin a day!

It is also known that breath work or rhythmic breathing can help clear your mind, slow down your heart rate, increase oxygenation in your entire body improving organ function, and is also a form of meditation in itself. So many benefits!

Yoga is a perfect combination of both movement and breath work. If you’re unable to attend a yoga class in person (or other exercise classes of your choosing), there are many options available online. I highly recommend checking out this brief 12 minute video which is a great introduction into yoga and meditation by Eddie Stern, a prominent yoga and meditation instructor whom I highly respect, and who I learned from this past summer through a teacher training program with the Urban Yogis. He makes yoga not one bit intimidating! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjCm7GDjJ7sAhWUlnIEHaX5DIgQwqsBMAB6BAgKEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTlBClbzO7IM&usg=AOvVaw0QLXvtRY2jcB-fv26ACfAR
