Day 9 of 20 - Autumnal Equinox Series: FOOD IS MEDICINE.

 October 15, 2020

Our bodies are a perfect scientific creation where every cell is designed to work intelligently to keep us alive. Most of us have very little concept of just how much healing potential our bodies have when we give them the right conditions.

Everything we put into our bodies has the ability to help us or hurt us. Being conscious about what we consume can improve our overall health and wellbeing considerably, even affecting our moods and how clearly we think.

Pay attention to how you feel after you eat or drink something. Does eating fried foods make you feel sluggish and fatigued? Do you get a stomach ache after eating dairy? Do your joints hurt more after eating gluten? Do you break out or get skin rashes with certain foods? Do you get more headaches after eating/drinking something in particular? Starting a food journal can help you figure out what’s hurting you.

Consult with a holistic nutritionist if you’d like to learn what works best for your very unique and individual system rather than falling for a fad, but sometimes simple changes are all that’s necessary like:
  • Incorporating fresh organic vegetables and fruits into our everyday meals and snacks
  • Avoiding processed foods, refined sugar and artificial ingredients
  • Drink filtered water
  • Take a daily vitamin/mineral supplement
  • Take probiotics for gut health
  • Reduce alcohol consumption
What we eat also directly affects our energy and vibration. “Clean” eating raises our vibration and helps to keep our energy balanced and flowing properly. It reduces foggy brain, supports all of our organ functions, and strengthens our immune systems which is our best line of defense for optimal health. Food is literally medicine.

Your diet isn’t only about what you eat - it’s also what you read, the products you use, what you watch, what you listen to, your social media feed, the people you put yourself around, the level of stress you allow into your life- whatever you allow into your mind and heart- not just on your skin and inside your stomach. They ALL have short term and long term effects.

As stated so profoundly on page 16 in the book, “The Healing Self” by Deepak Chopra, M.D. and Rudolph E. Tanzi, Ph.D. (2018):

“The dividing line between what happens automatically and what happens voluntarily isn’t fixed. Choices matter, and thus the healing self comes into play. On its own the body knows how to survive; it’s up to us to teach it how to thrive."

The body, mind and spirit all work together to form a complete, cohesive unit. To deny one part is to deny them all.

WE are our very best healers!
